Being a single mother of three and suffering from alcohol addiction is a terrible thing. My ex-husband helped me in finding a rehab center to help me with my addiction. This was a non 12 step rehab .

I went away for three months to an inpatient drug rehab. This has been the single most important decision that I ever made. I am now awake to the concerns of my children. I had been a heavy drinker for over eight years, after the birth of my second child, my only daughter.

I finally felt like this behavior had to end, I wanted to cleanse myself from alcohol once and for all. Going away to a California drug rehab center was the only way that I felt would be effective for me. The doctors and nurses and professionals are all extremely educated and were able to relate with me and made my visit comfortable.

Being able to recognize your problem is a healthy step. Having the courage to realize that you need professional help is another difficult step. But there are drug rehabs out there that are proven to help. Ultimately the decision comes down to you, but if you were like me and had a family to support, the decision shouldn’t be that difficult.

Holistic Drug Rehab

Over the years a new type of rehabilitation has been gaining much popularity over the years.  It is a treatment program that uses holistic medicine.  A holistic drug rehab is a program that addresses the mind, body, and spirit.  It is also a program that does not prescribe drugs when treating the drug or alcohol addiction.  This is a common trick for many programs that market themselves as being holistic.  Instead what they do is make it appear that they are natural and holistic when all they do is prescribe psychiatric prescription drugs.  This is one of the worst things that a drug rehab can do is to prescribe drugs to a person with a drug problem.

Of course a person may need to be medically detoxed first.  During this initial process drugs are used to taper a person off of the drug or alcohol which if come off of cold turkey is not medically safe.  The detox usually takes around 5-7 days and once the addicted individual has been properly detoxed then the holistic rehabilitation can start.

Most holistic programs offer an inpatient drug rehab which should address all components of handling addiction and also provide a life skills portion as well.  This will help the person how to live without drugs and alcohol which were probably used as some sort of solution to mental, emotional or physical problems.
